Disho

Disho

A menu that sells itself — without the waiter

Disho is a QR video menu that lets guests watch every dish before they order — and order 25–40% more. Restaurants go live in five minutes: no app for guests, no reprints, no waiting on staff. Renewator designed and built the full platform — from the TikTok-style guest experience to the real-time kitchen dashboard.

The product bet is behavioral: a printed menu makes the guest imagine the dish, a video menu shows it. Food content is the highest-converting format in hospitality marketing, but until now it lived on Instagram — not at the table, at the moment of decision. Disho moves it to the exact point where the order happens.

See it live at disho.net.

Each dish is a short video

Guests scroll a feed of dishes like TikTok — autoplay, muted, works on any phone. Restaurants just drop in an MP4 and the poster frame is extracted automatically. Vertical 9:16 like Reels, smart N+1 preload for instant swipes, and a Ken Burns photo fallback when there’s no video yet.

A unique QR on every table

A visual floor-plan editor lets staff lay out every table and print a unique QR code per table — terrace, main hall, or bar. When a guest scans, the order already carries the right table number and routes to the kitchen automatically. Print one code or all of them at once.

The engineering behind “it just plays”

A video menu lives or dies on restaurant Wi-Fi and three-year-old phones, so the guest experience is engineered like a media product, not a brochure site:

  • Video pipeline. Restaurants upload a plain MP4; the platform transcodes it for mobile delivery, extracts the poster frame automatically, and serves vertical 9:16 with autoplay muted — the format guests already scroll every day. An N+1 preload strategy keeps the next dish buffered, so swipes feel instant instead of showing a spinner.
  • Zero-install UX. Everything runs in the browser from a QR scan — no app store, no sign-up, nothing to download on guest data plans. That single decision removes the biggest drop-off point of every “restaurant app” that came before.
  • Real-time operations. Orders route by table through the floor-plan model, and the kitchen dashboard updates live — stop-list a dish once, and it disappears from every table’s menu at the same moment. No reprints, no “sorry, we’re out of that” after the guest already chose.
  • Content without a studio. For restaurants that lack footage, in-app AI tooling generates dish descriptions and works from photos with a Ken Burns fallback, so the menu looks alive from day one — the five-minute onboarding is real, not a landing-page promise.

What this case demonstrates

Disho is what our SaaS development work looks like end to end: product strategy (put the conversion moment where the decision happens), UX informed by consumer video habits, and an operations backend that respects how restaurants actually run. The same discipline — media performance budgets, real-time state, friction-free onboarding — transfers to any industry where the sale happens on a small screen in a noisy room.
